Centerpieces

Kicking the wedding plans into high gear and since the weather has been unpredictable, i.e. freezing, we have been unable to take care of our biggest chore...the backyard. So we made our centerpieces...various glass vases that we turned into mini vivariums.  They have various plants, flowers and herbs, that still need to grow in but so far are doing great!

We only have seven pieces so far but more on the way.

The Hipstamatic

Our friend Gwenn got a new ipod touch with a fun app called "The Hipstamatic" which applies different filters or lenses to the photos you take.  She was playing with it one night at our place and took some fun pics of our pets.

 

Hiking in Eldorado Canyon

One of our favorite things about Colorado is the weather and it has been beautiful lately!  So we seized the opportunity to take the dogs hiking in Boulder.  On our way there I snapped some pics on diagonal highway to show you what we look at on our way to work every morning. 

It was Darwin's first hike and he did great! The trail was pretty tough but they stuck it out and slept very well afterward, actually on the way home. And of course everyone who passed us commented on what a trooper Zoe is with her short little legs...and we laugh because she's a tough little cookie who's part mountain goat.

We went again the following weekend with Mike (an ER tech we work with at Alpenglow) and his dog Celia...Darwin's new best friend.  We even tried letting Darwin off leash and he stuck right by us...it was an awesome time and we are looking forward to many more!

Leachianus

New renovations in our gecko room included creating a new home for our leachianus (still nameless). She needs a lot of vertical space so we had the bright idea to stack a 20 gallon high tank with a screen tank of the same size. It looks awesome and will look even better when the foliage fills in.  I included pics with Dave for height comparison because it's so big he even had to stand on a step ladder!!

Leachianus geckos are the largest known living gecko. Due to their aggression and because of their ability to vocalize they are also known as "devils in the trees." Ours hasn't shown a lot of aggression but she is very nervous so I haven't been able to get any good pics of her.  I was able to get a few while Dave was moving her into her new home.

Leopard Geckos

 I was so excited when we got these two leopard geckos from a cardiologist that we work with. They were once a part of her child's classroom but since they weren't taken care of well she asked if we would take them. It gave us the opportunity to create a different type of environment since they are dry/desert climate geckos. We went to our favorite local garden shop to pick out some succulents and obtain some play sand. We mixed the play sand with peat moss for the substrate and planted the succulents. They have a fake rock to hide the burrow we created underneath and a heat lamp to keep it nice and toasty.  There is also some moss inside the burrow which we keep damp help them shed. It is very important for them to have some moisture so that they shed properly, if they don't it can cause a stricture and they can loose extremities. One of these geckos actually lost a limb and the other it's tail from this very problem.
